Harper had bundled himself up well before he'd decided to move on. His clothing was at least dry and warm, though as he'd stepped out he was aware of the stillness. The way sounds seemed to be muffled. He paused to make sure the fleece mittens were on before he moved off, the cane ghosting along the surface of the snow, his steps sure.
Distantly, or what seemed distantly, he heard the sound of something moving, springing through the snow towards him. He felt the rush of air heard the snort before he heard it bounding off. He could only guess it was a deer. As he kept moving forward he felt sure he could hear crows cawing, the sound muffled again as if it came from a distance.
It wasn't until he encountered something solid in front of him that he was aware the cawing was on top of him. Slowly then he moved feeling about. An animal carcass - it had four legs. A deer? A buck from the antlers. He hesitated briefly feeling around more with a mix of his cane before smiling as he found branches. Perfect for what he needed.
He stood still breaking them down carefully into sticks resting the cane against his body before he kept moving on, dropping a stick every so often. While he didn't trust himself to try and harvest the meat from the carcass it could be an invaluable supply.
He used the cane silently his brow furrowed as he concentrated more on listening for threats. He was aware of a cold damp feeling settling into his bones before he was brought to a halt upon finding a larger solid object. Carefully he navigated around the building trying to find a door, not daring to shout out incase it attracted something bad.
