Imagine the lights go out, never to return. Bright aurora flare across the sky, and all humanity’s technological might is laid to waste, neutralized in a kind of quiet apocalypse. Everything that has shielded humanity from the disinterested power of Mother Nature is suddenly wrenched from us, dropping us a few links down the food chain. Food and water are scarce. The roads are no longer safe. And winter approaches…

ALPHA OPENING That's right guys, after much work We Are Human is now in its Alpha Opening Stage. So what does this mean? It means that all the documentation is completed, however there may still be tweaks and changes as the site progresses. There may also be typing errors. So jump on! After all we have two big events happening - what will happen is all up to you!
SKILLS, PETS AND MORE New Skills have been released and things have been reorganised into a Knowledgebase. There's been a new way to gain skills and this has been finalised now - and pets have been released divided into two types
It is Year 1 after the incident. Currently it is Late Autumn and there are 25 days until Winter hits. Best stock up on supplies, as the weather will only get harsher from here.
Atiqtalaaq moved calmly through the silent clearing. Given this was near to his tribes' lands he wasn't expecting to see people. Still the building he came across - a small cabin, still secured. He hadn't seen any corpses and as he glanced at the sky there were no crows. So that would typically mean that this cabin was either deserted and the individual, or individuals who lived here were long gone, or they were asleep. Easily he swung himself down off of Kinguyakki's back, Ukiuk standing nearby snorting softly.
As he passed the bay pony he ignored the ears being pinned back, not bothering to secure either of his animals. He was familiar enough now to know that any attempts by Ukiuk to leave where he'd been left would cause Kinguyakki to move to herd him back. It had been the cause of his limp but the chestnut was still sound. He was old now.
Carefully he knocked on the door to the cabin, he was more than aware that people didn't tend to like someone bursting in on them. No answer. Slowly he pushed the door open looking around. Empty. Didn't look like anyone had been in there for a while either. Still, he worked methodically throughout the cabin. If they'd left, they couldn't want anything. In a cupboard, he found some cooked rabbit, still edible though only just.
Throwing another glance about he decided that he'd found all there was to find. Time to head off. As he left the cabin he was noticed a strange shape in the snow. Just as he was about to investigate -wham-. All the air was knocked out of him and he was sent sprawling as he was nailed by both of Ukiuk's hindfeet. Just as he was getting to his feet he was bowled over by a wolf. He reached for the tomahawk at his belt driving it into the wolf's shoulder and neck, sending the beast limping away.
Damnit. Gingerly he got to his feet, huffing in pain. He was stiff and sore as fuck. But he couldn't leave that wolf to just bleed out. The blood trail was easy to follow, by the time he'd caught up to it though - and truthfully it hadn't gone far - the beast was already dead. He shook his head as he slowly knelt by the black pelted creature to start to prepare to move it. This one would be coming back to camp.
The strange shape in the snow seemed to be a young doe, what the wolf had been protecting. It seemed to be a fresh kill, with little maiming of the meat from the wolf.
The wolf on the other hand, upon being severely injured, had decided to flee back towards the thing that mattered to her more than the kill, those who she was trying to feed and protect. In the end, she'd never make it, collapsing in eyesight of her den. She gave one last weak howl for her pups as she faded into the long dark.
As Atiqtalaaq approached the downed wolf, it wouldn't be obvious at first, but there was slight yipping and sounds of scratching nearby. Through the snow there was a slight disturbance that revealed a bit of an opening.
A wolf den, full of 6 healthy young pups- their eyes were open, but they hadn't been for long, their coats were varied, some dark as their mother, others with grey or even near white fur. By the bits of pre-chewed meat in the den, it seemed they were already eating and no longer dependent on mom's milk, yet far to young to survive on their own. Without someone to care for them, they'll die too.
Just before he could heft the carcass up he heard the yipping and scratching. His eyes scanned quickly settling on the whole. A gesture to the two horses and then he was moving. A den. That only made up his mind. He'd dishonored nature and thrown her out of balance. If he had known the corpse was that of a doe he'd have moved away quicker. Now he had to take responsibility for these young lives. No matter what the tribe thought.
He was reassured at least by the fact there were small bits of meat around. That at least meant he'd not have to kill them. Carefully he moved back to his horses, approaching Kingkiyuuk and removing the rolled up blanket and unfurling it. Then he started to move the pups one by one grabbing them by the scruff into the blanket before carefully drawing it up around them. While he made sure there was enough space to let air in, he equally ensured there wasn't space for them to wriggle loose.
Then he moved to pick up both the doe and the wolf carcass one after the other depositing them on the troublemakers back. "You can carry these Ukiuk. We have a journey to make, and we may need both later on," he stated calmly. Then picking up the sack with one hand he headed for a tree stump. En route he took the chance to pick up a total of six sticks, noticing some old mans beard lichen. He stowed these on Ukiuk, ignoring the faces the bay was pulling at him. Finally he swung himself onto Kingkiyuuk's back, taking hold of the rope that he used to guide the chestnut and guiding him away through the narrow valley entrance.
as the sun rises from the horizon, the last patches of snow clouds cleared way. the chill of the night was leaving, and with the temperature change in the air a fog was beginning to form.
the wolf pups could still barely see as it was, but as the new creature began to grab them, a couple sniffled him curiously. he smelled like mom to them, so they weren't afraid. if anything, they were hungry. they almost immediately welcomed him as part of their family. they quickly snuggled down into their new little home and with the calm horse's steady pace, rocked them into a calm slumber.
as he saddled up on his horses, though, he would see something rustle in the brush- it brought attention to the red berries signifying rose hips growing on the plant, but also to another reddish creature- a young fawn, wobbling its way through the thick snow as it nibbled at a few blades of grass sticking up through. upon noticing something nearby, though, the fawn gave a bleat, soft nose wriggling in the air. the fawn bounded out in front of the pup-packing horse, though taking curiosity in the fouler horse toting the carcasses. that's where the familiar scent was coming from, after all..
a sudden gust blows through, a couple larger branches falling from a nearby tree, thankfully nowhere near the group halted by the fawn, but slightly further up ahead, blocking their path. they'd need cleared away before he could continue, but to think had the fawn not stopped them, he'd likely been crushed instead.
Kingkiyuuk had snorted as the fawn had bounded out in front of him coming to a halt watching the young thing curiously. Ukiuk snorted pinning his ears back at the little thing before lowering his head almost curiously at the bleat ears pricked forward. He whickered back to the little creature turning his head to nose and nudge him closer starting to try and groom at the fawn.
Atiqtalaaq had blinked at the uncommon show of gentleness from the foul-tempered bay. He'd been more than ready to scold him glancing at Kingkiyuuk who seemed to snort softly as if to say 'well maybe miracles do happen'. The crash of branches falling caught his attention next and he sighed. It would seem that while he'd stayed too long here he had at least been prevented a rather horrible fate. Slowly he slipped off of the chestnuts back hissing as Ukiuk spun his head round to bite at him scolding him in response for the action and placing the little sack of pups by Kingkiyuuk's feet.
Ukiuk soon went back to grooming and nuzzling at 'his' fawn whickering softly again to the small creature and making soft contented noises. Atiqtalaaq sighed as he moved around to approach the fawn after pulling a length of birch rope from Kingkiyuuk's saddle bags. As gently as he could he moved to grasp the fawn, planning on tying its front and back legs together and then heft that onto Ukiuk's back. He immobilized the front legs first tying them securely but gently together hearing the fawn's panicked bleats and barely avoiding as Ukiuk moved to try and bite him.
"He's coming with us you daft horse," he growled at the bay pushing him back away to give him some more space. Just as smoothly he tied the back limbs together picking up the struggling creature and placing him onto Ukiuk's back, no doubt getting more bleats as the fawn panicked in his grasp. Once he had the creature secured he lashed some more rope to secure him fully so he wouldn't accidentally slip off.
Then he moved to start clearing the branches. He worked quickly using the tomahawk now to cut through the wood, though he still found himself rather nicely warmed up by his work. It would equally be a shame to leave a valuable resource behind. So again he pulled the birch rope out working now to tie the timber he'd harvested into bundles. He brought these to Kingkiyuuk, tying them behind the saddlebags and lifting the pack of wolf cubs as he led the chestnut back to the tree stump he'd used to mount with swinging back onto his back picking up the rope and nudging him forward into a steady jog, picking up Ukiuk's rope reins as he passed, leading the bay along with him into the fog.
at first, the fawn was frightened of the odd thing grabbing him. it took comfort in the horse trying to care for it, and was less afraid as the horse was trying to protect it. being secured in place wasn't very fun, but he was being secured next to a familiar deer, which he sniffed at curiously, bleating again, resting its head on the hump of the doe's shoulder.
as he gathered the wood, he retrieved quite a few bundles- retrieving 6 bundles of cedar firewood. now the path was clear, but the fog that had rolled in made it more difficult to spot more structures along the way. at first, it seemed there were two ways to go, but then at a closer look, it seemed a couple of large boulders had blocked off the small road, it left only one direction to travel.
for a good while he traveled finding very little of anything, maybe an hour or so into travel through the valley, until the walls seemed to open up, revealing what seemed like a vehicle towing a Camper... but from the look of the lifted hood and mangled engine, it wasn't going anywhere anymore. the camper, however, seemed to be untouched, a thick padlock on the door and a small, handmade dreamcatcher hanging on the handle. pelts were hung inside over the windows, but also a pile of scrap metal and tinder piled outside, like someone had gathered it. not to mention around the camper, snow shelters had plastic containers piled within, set up as some sort of meat storage to keep things frozen. no doubt someone had stayed at this place for a while, and probably intended to come back from how much was left here. if this much was carelessly left outside, what could possibly be in there they bothered to lock up?
someone's secret cache has been discovered!
further down the small trail this camper was parked near, it seemed the fog was thinning, revealing a clearing with just a few trees, as the trail turned and continued into the valley, but in that clearing was a small gathering of deer, a few doe, two young bucks, but what grabbed the most attention was a massive white stag, a huge set of ivory antlers atop his head tipped with crimson from battle, a thick hide with a few past scars, and a pair of coal black eyes that stared back at the odd group, not running or even flinching. the doe moved closer to him, or further away from the strange man, but none seemed threatened enough to flee. standing close to the white stag was another young fawn, just as white as he, seeming about the age of the fawn on his horse.
Silently Atiqatalaaq drew the horses to a halt. He was pausing, just watching the white stag and fawn. A slight smile had even ghosted on his lips. He paid no heed to the trailer or the supplies, with what Ukiuk was carrying he'd have enough to keep him in with food for a while, even with hungry wolf pups to feed as well.
It was a gust of wind that caused him to remember to move on. That and obviously the deer caught a scent of either himself or predators as the small herd scattered. A gentle squeeze of his legs against Kingkiyuuk's side let the chestnut know to move on, and their course was roughly set - winding down towards the townsite.
as the man abandoned the trailer without raiding it, and the deer continued on their way, the wind seemed to be picking up a bit. "help.. h-help.." a low groan sounded as branches waved and creaked- it just blended in with the wind.
the gusts in the air gave brief respites, still bits of light fog rolled through, beginning to vary in thickness at some places from the wind's displacement. a weather change was coming soon, it seemed the sky would be clearing, just as he continued down the trail and came upon a paved road- a sign of civilization. the fog in this area had faded, crisp and clear with the sun sparkling in the snow and ice all around.
the first thing to greet him seemed to be a crashed and abandoned car, along with a gathering of 3 thin wolves. one seemed interested in the car, scratching at the door- at a closer glance, there was a corpse inside, and it seemed to know so.
it's friends however were trying to chase down a rabbit, but as it suddenly darted in Atiqtalaaq's direction, they realized his presence and didn't chase after- they were somewhat intimidated by the two horses and the strange man, but also smelling the air, could tell he carried meat, both vulnerable prey and carcasses- interested in his haul, they didn't run, but they retreated a few steps to gather into more of a group, watching him intently.
a little distance off seemed to be a cabin- and what seemed to be a trace of smoke rising from the chimney. a fire was burning recently, meaning someone else had to be nearby. it seemed he'd made it to the town, with a few more buildings further off.
