Imagine the lights go out, never to return. Bright aurora flare across the sky, and all humanity’s technological might is laid to waste, neutralized in a kind of quiet apocalypse. Everything that has shielded humanity from the disinterested power of Mother Nature is suddenly wrenched from us, dropping us a few links down the food chain. Food and water are scarce. The roads are no longer safe. And winter approaches…

It is Year 1 after the incident. Currently it is Late Autumn and there are 25 days until Winter hits. Best stock up on supplies, as the weather will only get harsher from here.
Pale icy eyes regarded the frozen landscape about him. A blizzard overnight had driven him to seek shelter inside the mine. Now he could see the silent beauty of the frozen world. And it's brutality. Even as he watched a black furred wolf came charging out after a rabbit. A smirk twitched the corner of his lips briefly before he strode forward.
While the brute was focused on its kill he was unaware until it was too late. Pouncing swiftly one hand fastened around the scruff while the other slammed into the beast's chest sending it sprawling onto its side. His eyes focused on the wolves his smirk widening at the frantic whines and whimpers, curling his upper lip back in a silent snarl.
Desperately the brute struggled trying to squirm loose before falling still tail tucked between its legs. He didn't move at first when Angel stood, its movements hesitant keeping itself low to the ground as it did stand, tail still tucked low still whining softly.
Angel ignored it for now though picking up its kill and going back to surveying the land. As far as he was concerned that was his rabbit. And his wolf.

she was out on her own, after last night's blizzard, it had nearly left the cabin's windows blacked out from the beginnings of dawn, which had only added on to fayette's beginnings of cabin fever. her new guest would surely spice up things, but even so, at the moment she needed to be alone, not add more people into the mix.
so she snuck out early in the morning, not even making a single noise as she left her friend and guest to their own slumbers- if any funny business went on, she was sure svetlana could handle herself, she was more worried for the stranger and his ears once they woke, another reason she was glad to be out before the silence was broken. instead, she enjoyed the peaceful silence of a frozen wasteland.
That was, until she was disturbed by the nearby mrowl of a cougar. if it wasn't so close, she could've ignored it, but she had to know it's position unless she finds herself unprepared, out here alone. when she located the beast, though, she found more than just her tracks. in fact, she was traveling rather slowly- because it seemed she was moving some young kittens to a safer place. there was only 2, not surprising given how young the mother seemed, but she herself didn't look the greatest- a bite in the shoulders and a slight limp, it seemed she'd had a tuffle with a wolf.
fate had no sympathy, however, her only interest in this creature was her valuable treasures, otherwise she would've left it alone to its own accord and suffering. instead, though, she let out 3 lines, which quickly snagged up the unsuspecting mother. an animals instant reaction is to thrash away, but that only served to further entangle the lioness, the wires beginning to sink into her fur and flesh as it roared out in pain and panic.
with the creature nearly subdued, all it took was a nearly feral cry of her own, and resting a boot firmly on the cat's throat. she didn't want it dead- not yet anyhow. she wanted the kittens to survive, and being so young, they'd still need momma's milk until they could manage meat.
as far out as she was, though, she doubted she could lure the injured mother back to the cabin, though, if she wasn't mistaken, she was somewhere near a mine...
Angel heard the Mrowl and the smirk widened. Oh he could potentially find some sport here. Unconcerned upon hiding himself he moved forward confidently. A warning snarl brought the black pelted wolf to follow, another glare silenced the whimpers.
Then as he crested the hill a rare grin showed at the sight before him. Ah yes here was another predator, though not quite the apex. That was only himself.
"Kakoy vyzov imeyet sud'ba v etikh chastyakh, malen'kaya devochka? Chto predskazyvayet sud'ba? YA doveryayu khoroshey okhote khotya by." The smirk had returned, even as he fixed his wolf with a warning glare.
(Translation: what call does fate have in these parts, little girl? what does fate predict? i trust good hunting at least.))
With the sun on the east horizon, and stars still kissing the west, to the north suddenly springs forth a vivid display of wavering neon lights, usually paler for the time of day, but this burst seems to be particularly bold. It could only mean one thing- an aurora event. The sky danced with bold greens and icy blues, with the weather remaining clear they were brilliant, crisp, and with their intensity was enough to rile a peculiar feeling in the animals nearby.
the scent of blood has attracted a hungry bear to the nearby area, the sudden appearance of aurora causing it distress, grunting and growling in the distance. with the wind picking up from the northwest, it seemed the weather might not be clear for long.
a strange turn of luck, a sudden gust made a half-eaten doe tumble from the trees above, likely a kill dragged up there by a puma, likely the one now subdued. while thoroughly frozen from the overnight chill, some meat might still be salvageable.

The mother cat mrowled slightly, also distressed from the sudden occurance of the solar storm, her kittens seeming frightened. however, fayette loosened her hold on the strings, letting them fall slack, as the mother cat fearfully shifted onto its belly and began licking her wounds, fayette picked up the two kittens and held them close. one puffed at her at first, while the other found comfort and began softly purring. she gave a mimic purr in return, before setting her eyes on the man cresting the hill, narrowing them slightly at the comment of 'little girl.'
"Kazhetsya, sud'ba predskazala nash perekrestok, malen'kiy mal'chik ... no ya ne nakhozhus' na okhote, prosto na progulku. YA zametil mnogo letyashchikh oleney v moyem puteshestvii, tak chto eto dolzhno byt' izbytok khishchnikov"
she turned her head slightly, hearing the grunts of a bear in the distance. with the half deer on the ground, likely it'd go for the meat before either of them. still, not wishing her new 'pet' to get hurt, she gave it a harsh nudge in the side with her boot. it took the hint, and started limping away from the slowly approaching bear.
"Akh, moye predskazaniye verno ... ya dovol'no nastroyen s myasom v lagere, no medvezh'yey shkure bylo by khorosho ... kak naschet togo, chto my nemnogo veselilis'? V posledneye vremya vse skuchno."
-----
"it seems fate has predicted our crossroads, little boy... but i am not out hunting, just for a stroll. i've spotted many flighty deer in my travel, so it must be an excess of predators about."
"ah, my prediction holds true... i'm fairly set up with meat at camp, but a bear pelt would be nice... how about we have a little fun? things have been boring lately."
