[PTab=Aurora Events]
To some a chilling reminder of what has happened, the Aurora was also the initial warning and marker of the event that changed the world. The only sign we had that there had been a massive solar storm, and a mass ejection of solar matter. This hit our world, and that was when our world went to hell. Electrical systems were destroyed, and planes were grounded -dramatically if they were in the air. By which they crashed. Fires also started in some houses causing them to burn to the ground. The Aurora and the geomagnetic storm have also disturbed animals and ruined migrations resulting in mass die-offs. This means the number of predators has boomed. Either way, these effects are going on even now. During Aurora, electricity works, TVs switch on (but will only display test cards) and radios in houses with produce static, or music. Lights may suddenly turn on – which may create random areas of illumination, or leave you in pitch blackness. However, this electrical surge comes with danger. Namely, the sparking if wires have come loose or where wildlife have stripped back to the copper can start spontaneous fires, making death traps for the unwary player. |
[PTab=Weather]
Weather conditions can change, going from clear sunny (or starry) skies, to cloudy conditions with low visibility, to blizzards. Traveling in different weather conditions may have an impact on movement speed, wear and wetness of clothing, fatigue, warmth, and even restrict visibility or audibility of the environment.
High winds High winds push against the character, slowing movement and increasing fatigue rate when moving against, speeding movement and lowering fatigue when moving with. High winds can also make starting a fire or lighting a torch or match impossible. Windblown campfires Campfires will blow out in heavy winds, but not completely. Instead, an affected campfire is capped to 9 minutes of fire life. Adding additional fuel will not be able to raise the campfire's life above 9 minutes. While it may be possible to keep such a fire tended until the storm shifts its winds, the better option is almost always to relocate. |

You can encounter a variety of wildlife in this world, some friend, some threats. Either way, it's up to you to find ways to utilize them Bear Bears are a non-elemental danger. They have been awoken from their winter hibernation by the Aurora. They are very hard to kill, however, for the most part, tend to ignore the characters they encounter unless you get too close to them. However, if attacked they will charge at their attacker, and they cannot be fought. Your character will be mauled, and without medical supplies, your character will die. Crows You cannot interact with crows. However, the sighting of crows can indicate the following: - There is a corpse nearby; this can be a deer carcass or a corpse of a human who did not make it. - There is a bear nearby, crows circle and mob the bear (possibly hoping for an easy food source) - The weather is changing, normally signified by three crows trying to fly in a straight line. Deer Deer are non-aggressive and will run from characters if they get too close. Wolves will chase and attack deer near them, and will also consume their carcass meat, leaving little for the player to harvest if given enough feeding time. Deer meat is a great source of meat, being very calorie dense, and their guts and hide can be harvested and cured indoors. However, initially without improving your character's skill with a bow and arrow or a rifle, the easiest way to gain access to this vital supply is coming across a deer carcass. Rabbits Like Deer rabbits are non-aggressive. However, they are only found in a few places on the known world. They can be hunted by snares, or bow and arrow/rifle. Snares, however, are the easiest way to kill them, but they do not provide a high amount of calories in the meat. They can also be hunted by wolves, but if you come across such a carcass, you will only find the gut and pelt, as the wolf itself will likely have eaten the meat. Wolves Wolves are aggressive and will attack a character upon getting too close. They no longer form real packs, due to the disruption caused by the geomagnetic storm and the ease of food resources to them. They are scared of fire, and sudden forms of light which can be used to ward off wolf attacks. Equally, they can be hunted for their meat and pelt. Wolf attacks can result in sprains, bleeding, damage to clothing you're wearing, infections and even death |
[PTab=Time]
Conditions during the day and night are different. At night, outdoor temperatures drop even colder, and wolves are more active and alert making it difficult to be outside. Not to mention it's hard to see without the sun. You’ll probably want to find shelter before it gets dark. Nighttime strips shelters of any natural interior light; Light sources are a must for moving around in the dark. One day is 24 hours long split almost evenly between 13 hours of daylight and 11 hours of darkness. Time will pass throughout threads, and it is expected for players themselves to track time passage. If they chose not to do so, every Friday 10 threads maximum would be selected as random to have the staff state time passage in the format of 'x' hours of 'day/night' left. Players may opt out 3 threads at any one time to avoid this, however, should they then not state the time passage periodically as required the thread starter will be sent a message requesting in the next post they indicate how many hours of day or night is left. |
